AUTUMN 2012 UPDATE

Ok I know it has been a LOOOOOOOOOONG time
since I last updated this comic blog
I'm getting quite rusty with my tablet
so pardon me if my drawings are sloppy T_T
Hope everyone is well, it's Autumn in Brisbane now!


Last week we had our 2012 Queensland State Election
and I helped booth and roadside for
Ian Walker (Mansfield) 53.66% WIN
Mark Stewart (Sunnybank) 52.87% WIN
Freya Ostapovitch (Stretton) 47.08% (WIN)
Clem Grehan (South Brisbane) 38.12% (???)

with which from yesterday, I'll be helping with Team Quirk
for 2012 Local Government Elections
To each his own, so please don't leave me nasty comments etc


Received a lot of offensive remarks from voters
It's okay if you give me the thumbs down,
but in my opinion, one should not judge a party by one bad egg
I have my preferences for particular candidates,
it just happens that they are all from the same party LOL
More importantly, I do not discredit any other candidates!


Some voters got quite aggressive
so I think I may wanna increase my insurance coverage for the next 4 weeks
However I certainly enjoy clueless lil kids waving back at me
cos they simply enjoyed being waved at
Absolutely adorable!


I came to a conclusion that I should not appear too passionate to people
who look like war veterans, Cletus Spuckler (Simpsons) or dress like Fred Durst (Limp Bizkit)
as they are more aggressive and out-spoken generally
Others in office wear or look like tertiary students are generally more gentle
and polite even if they disagree with your cause


The most interesting events at West End State School were with the bare-footed hippies
They were preaching to us that we should stop hurting Mother Earth with these flyers
Really nice, gentle people =)


Autumn is here
I reckon it's the most comfortable season in a year
Clear blue skies, not very humid
and cool nights for a good sleep

I almost shat in my pants taking the superman ride

HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2011

Had been Spring Cleaning my room very thoroughly..


Wishing everybody a HAPPY CHINESE NEW YEAR 2011! =)
According to the Lunar Calendar, its the Year of the Rabbit
and this year it falls on 3 Feb 2011 (Thursday)


Chinese people believes that there are 60 dieties in-charge
of human world affairs and they change shift every year
We call these dieties 太岁(aka 太岁星君, 岁星, Jupiter)
Each duty-diety conflicts with a couple of zodiacs
For example, this year's duty-diety is 范宁将军

The affected zodiacs are
Rabbit 值: same zodiac as diety, easily frustrated and ill, should not go travelling
Chicken 冲: conflict with diety's zodiac, difficulties in work, troublesome matters
Rat 刑: conflict with diety's zodiac, troublesome and monetary matters
Dragon+Dog 害: slight conflict with diety's zodiac, sabotages, backstabs, failures when close to completion of tasks


This is my template for this year's
Chinese New Year cards
for my family, friends and relatives


This year I'll probably be having CNY steamboat/hot pot
Last year we had one at Jay's place at West End
but this year, he's gone to Adelaide for work

Back in Singapore, we usually eat this for CNY eve Reunion Dinner
with our families, after the dinner we will get Red Packets
(Yes.. Money inside of course)
For CNY eve, the kids will stay up the entire night
Chinese believed that this practice will give parents longevity


I will also be watching Lion Dance in Brisbane
The Lions are much taller
because most Lion Dance/Martial Arts Groups
here have Anglo-white Australians who are bigger in size


Back in Singapore, kids love Chinese New Year
cos we get to buy new clothes and get Red Packets
from seniors, employers and married friends/relatives


Everyone puts on weight after Chinese New Year
because there are so much good food
My family would have lunch before visiting
my paternal side family who will serve us Hakka dishes
(like Braised Raw Beef, Hakka Meat Balls etc etc)
after that we will visit my maternal side family where
we will have Hokkien dishes (like Pork Belly Soup etc)


Also, its great joy to play with my cousin's babies
There seem to be constantly new supplies every now and then
As we do not see them poop/cry,
watching their little hands and feets and innocent reactions
is a very rewarding experience!

BRISBANE FLOOD COMICS [Jan 2011]

It was a fine sunny morning with slight drizzle
everyone is home watching Toowoomba Flood videos off Youtube
and doing their own stuff like any ordinary day..


I only realised the emergency was real
when people were snatching produces in supermarkets


Walked to South Bank and saw the waters rising
Its time to escape - for real!


An EMPLOYEE reaction was to escape...


An EMPLOYER reaction was to keep calm...
But it was hard to keep calm
when Brisbane City Council evacuated the CBD area


And announced that power supply will be cut off
the next morning from 7AM
To a geek, this means
1. No Computer Games
2. No Surfing Internet
3. No Television
4. No Life!


Immediately packed up my Important Stuff
and prepared for evacuation!


My Burmese friend came to rescue me before
my house and its surrounding streets were flooded
The last thing that I want is to be trapped inside a house
without electricty!


Made phone calls and checked Facebook
to see if my friends were safe and sound..


Answered some calls from Singapore Reporters
who wanted to know the situation in Brisbane


Visited my friends who evacuated from Indooroopilly


Realised that Burmese people eat curry every single day
else it would be some spicy dish that resembles curry


Played basketball with the neighbourhood kids
Learned that kids all over the world are the same
They play aggressive and accuse you of cheating
when they are losing...


Sometimes we play Monopoly just to kill time..


Everyday I think of going home, back to West End..
where WEST END REPRESENT


When the flood water receded,
I went back to check out my house
Everywhere was painted grey-ish brown
Everyone was cleaning and pumping mud out of their properties


Citipointe Church Volunteers came to West End
and handed out hotdog buns and warm/cold beverages
Everyone looked so gloomy and depressed..


After the flood is gone, I learned to appreciate things better
I know after some time, things will go back to the way they used to be...

Deepest condolences
to those who have lost their loved ones and properties
